Our Founder & Legacy
Hazrat Mufti Muhammad Shafi Usmani Sahab (R.A)
Founder (رحمہ اللہ)
Nearly eight decades ago in Deoband, Hazrat Mufti Muhammad Shafi Usmani Sahab (رحمہ اللہ) laid the foundation of Kutub Khana Darul Ishaat to preserve and disseminate sacred Islamic learning. When the partition of the subcontinent forced a painful migration, vast literary treasures were left behind, creating an urgent void for authentic Islamic scholarship in the newly formed nation of Pakistan. Though deeply absorbed in drafting the country's Islamic constitutional framework alongside eminent scholars, the Grand Mufti held a steadfast vision: sacred knowledge must continue to illuminate minds without interruption.
Muhammad Razi Usmani Sahab (R.A)
Co-Founder & Builder (رحمہ اللہ)
That noble task was entrusted to his devoted son, Muhammad Razi Usmani Sahab (رحمہ اللہ), who stepped forward as the driving force and Co-Founder to build anew. In 1950, amidst the bustling heart of Karachi, he established the institution under the direct spiritual guidance of his father and with the blessings of Syed Sulaiman Nadvi (رحمہ اللہ). Through decades of quiet sacrifice and unyielding discipline, Muhammad Razi Usmani Sahab (رحمہ اللہ) transformed a modest setup into a premier publishing house, nurturing the publication of classical scholarly works and establishing a trusted bridge between grand scholars and everyday readers.
Khalil Ashraf Usmani Sahab
CEO & Torchbearer (مدظلہم)
As the years unfolded, the sacred responsibility passed to the third generation — his son, Khalil Ashraf Usmani Sahab (مدظلہم). Taking the helm as CEO, he preserved the foundational ethos while modernizing operations and expanding the institution's reach far beyond regional borders. Recognizing the changing needs of global readers, he spearheaded the translation and publication of classical texts into English, ensuring that seekers of knowledge everywhere could access authentic Islamic literature.
Today, with an extensive library spanning over 1,500 Urdu titles and 500 English publications distributed globally, the story of Darul Ishaat remains an enduring legacy woven across three generations — from a visionary Founder, to a dedicated Builder, to a modern Torchbearer.

Books worth knowing
A verified starter list, searchable by title, author, or section — drawn from library and bookseller records rather than invented for this page.
This list is intentionally not padded to a round number: every entry here can be traced to a library record or bookseller listing. Our full catalogue runs far larger — visit the Urdu Bazaar shopfront, WhatsApp us, or ask in person for the complete printed list.
Every book is proof read 2–3 times before it reaches you
Religious texts are copied more often than almost anything else in print, and a mistranslated word in a hadith commentary is not a small error. Every Darul Ishaat book is checked and proof read multiple times before publication — our way of standing behind the accuracy of what's inside, printing to printing, decade to decade.
